About
Eat Up
Child hunger is a huge problem in New Zealand with 1 in 5 kids regularly going hungry. Eat Up New Zealand, a registered charity, exists to engage the community to help feed kiwi school kids who otherwise go without, ensuring the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children have the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed at school.
The concept of Eat Up was started in Australia by Lyndon Galea. Lyndon read a newspaper article in his hometown of Shepparton, Victoria, Australia about school children going to school without lunch and felt that he had to do something to help. Since then, Lyndon has built Eat Up in Australia to support over 500 schools across 3 states. He and his team have made over 800,000 sandwiches for hungry Aussie kids. In 2017 Scott met Lyndon and fell so much in love with the impact Eat Up was having he got involved full time in Melbourne, Australia. Having learned how the program works from both an operational and a delivery perspective Scott just knew he had to bring Eat Up back home to New Zealand so it could also help Kiwi kids doing it tough, which is how Eat Up New Zealand was born.
Eat Up launched in New Zealand in early 2020 and is currently operating out of a hub in Palmerston North, with an aim to support schools, down to Wellington, up to Hawke’s Bay and New Plymouth and in-between, with future plans of expanding across New Zealand.
We will be running both public and workplace volunteer sandwich making events, initially in Palmerston North and surrounds, Levin and Wellington.
