What's Eat Up New Zealand all about?
It’s hard to believe, but in New Zealand 1 in 5 school children don't have access to enough food.
And without food, concentration is compromised, which means learning is compromised, which means their future is compromised. And that’s not really fair, is it? Eat Up New Zealand is all about changing that! |
Get Involved - It doesn't take much
to make a sandwich
But a sandwich is all it takes to stop local kids going hungry at school.
Eat Up New Zealand is a registered charity and all of our sandwiches are made by volunteers, either during events hosted by companies or in public sessions. Our workplace sandwich making sessions are fast, fun and impactful. We bring all the ingredients and supplies, and you provide a donation to cover ingredients and delivery, a suitable space (lunch room, boardroom, large meeting room etc) and your team as volunteers. Sessions are 60 - 120 minutes, and we need 10 - 20 people per session where we will make 500-1000+ sandwiches for hungry kids. It's a great team building and staff engagement activity, and a powerful way for your organisation to give back in a tangible and meaningful way. |
Our public volunteer sessions will initially be held in the Manawatu.
These sessions are similar to workplace sessions, and are held in a venue where anyone can attend (even kids!) They are a fun and engaging way to make a real difference in our community. |
Nominate a school
We want to help as many schools in New Zealand as we can. If you think your local school could benefit from 100% free Eat Up lunches, fill out the form and we'll send them everything they need to get started.
How do you do it?
The beauty of the Eat Up program is in its simplicity.
We hold volunteer events where we make a huge number of sandwiches. We then deliver (100% free of charge) fresh cheese or Marmite sandwiches and recess snack items, when available, directly to schools, to be stored in a freezer so they can be toasted or defrosted as required, when a student arrives without an adequate lunch. |
